Vine Street Garden, North Perth

Christina’s garden is her family’s everyday delight, creating a seasonal narrative for her family of wonder, rest, play, work, harvesting, cooking, eating, celebrating and hosting. This garden is an embodiment of Christina and her husband Patrick’s ethos of care and connection, their design focusing on social and ecological richness. In this family garden the layered depth of diverse greenery and its wildlife creates the feeling of being part of a bigger natural system that is unconcerned with their day, it creates serenity. Creatively sharing their garden with others comes in many forms for this family: bouquets of foliage and flowers; home produce fresh or preserved; seeds and seedlings, shade, rest, play, neighbourly chats, outdoor dining and seasonal events. It feels good to connect to the neighbourhood, family, friends and nature in this way.

Christina and Patrick have little time or energy for maintenance, and the strong structure and biodiversity that they have created allows them to neglect the garden and still have guests marvel. Photos taken at midday during the third heatwave of summer.
